Playing the Course
Situated just outside of Gullane in East Lothian, Archerfield is home to the Paul Lawrie Match Play and Prostate Cancer UK Scottish Senior Open.
Archerfield is owned by Edinburgh-based businessman Kevin Doyle and the entire development is valued at £55 million. Both Archerfield and Fidra courses were designed by golf architect David J Russell, with The Dirleton winding inland towards Dirleton village, heading towards the coast and the island bird sanctuary of Fidra.
An older golf course, also called Archerfield Links, occupied the area before falling into disuse after World War II.
Membership of the Links is not cheap, with individual debenture packages requiring an ‘upfront’ fee of £35k and an annual subscription of £1500.
Known patrons include famous sportsmen, Alan Shearer, Ryan Giggs and Ian Botham.
Archerfield, Fidra and Dirleton Links
With sweeping fairways and whispering pines, both courses are extremely inviting and offer an enthralling experience.
Whilst there are deep menacing bunkers and undulating dunes to navigate, it’s an extremely pleasurable experience appreciated and enjoyed by all golfers from amateurs to Masters Champions such as Gary Player.
