Royal Belfast is the oldest golf club in Ireland, and it plays with the confidence and restraint of a course that knows exactly what it is. Set along the southern shore of Belfast Lough, it offers a traditional links test shaped by subtle contours, clever bunkering and a steady coastal breeze.

The layout rewards accuracy and thought rather than brute force. Fairways are narrower than many modern links, and greens are compact, gently sloped and well defended. Approach play is critical. Being on the correct side of the fairway often matters more than distance gained from the tee.

Wind off the lough is a constant companion, influencing club selection without overwhelming the design. The course asks clear questions and expects honest answers. There is little trickery here, just intelligent golf that rewards patience and imagination.

Royal Belfast is understated and deeply satisfying. A course that grows on you with every hole.
