Dumbarnie Links opened in 2020 and wasted no time climbing into the ranks of the world’s top new courses. Designed by Clive Clark, the course sits just 20 minutes from St Andrews but offers a very different flavour – wide fairways, risk-reward holes, and visual drama at every turn. Built across a natural, gently undulating site with elevated tees and sweeping sea views, it strikes a rare balance between championship challenge and sheer enjoyment. The course features dual fairways, heroic carries, and firm, fast playing surfaces. The par-5 17th tempts a bold approach over a gully, while the short par-4 5th dares players to take on the green with driver. The design encourages creativity – and rewards bravery – without overly punishing high handicappers. Wind plays a big role, but the layout gives room to play. Greens are large, firm, and subtly contoured. From tee to green, conditioning is immaculate. Dumbarnie is a joy to play and impossible to forget – pure, modern links golf at its most exhilarating.

Aggressive play is rewarded. Take on the corners and use elevation to your advantage. Use firm turf for creative shot-making into complex greens.
Enjoy the generous landing areas and focus on smart approach play. Avoid short-siding yourself and use the slopes to feed balls in.
Forgiving off the tee, Dumbarnie is one of the most enjoyable links layouts for higher handicappers. Stay relaxed and enjoy the scenery – it’s stunning.
9.5 – fast, true, and wind-tuned
Exposed coastal site with prevailing south-westerly breeze. Elevation adds variability.
Well managed – starter, rangers, and strong hospitality support
Modern setup with welcoming staff – views from the first tee are inspiring, not intimidating.
Contemporary, airy, with panoramic views and excellent dining
The 17th is unforgettable – a dramatic par-5 requiring a bold second shot over a gully. The short par-4 5th is pure temptation off the tee. The par-3 8th plays downhill toward the sea, often into a crosswind, demanding a perfect strike.
East coast location means drier conditions, but wind is a major factor. Spring and early autumn offer crisp, clear air and firm turf. Bring layers – sunshine and sea breezes come together often.
