Vilamoura Old Course is one of Portugal’s most respected and established layouts – a parkland classic that has matured beautifully since its opening in 1969. Routed through umbrella pines with gently undulating fairways, it offers a calm, refined contrast to the coastal resort courses nearby.

Accuracy from the tee defines the experience. Fairways are framed by tall pines that punish wayward drives but rarely feel unfair. The shaping of the holes encourages thoughtful positioning rather than brute force, and the greens are subtly contoured, rewarding solid approach play and confident putting.

The course flows naturally through the forest, with each hole feeling distinct yet harmonious. While not a links-style test, it has a championship character, particularly on the longer par 4s and reachable but strategic par 5s.

Vilamoura Old is about rhythm and control. Play it well and it feels graceful. Get out of position and it quietly tightens its grip.

A precision course. Shape tee shots to ideal sides of fairways and attack with wedges when opportunities appear. Putting separates good rounds from great ones.

Keep the ball in play and avoid tree trouble. Positioning over distance will set up scoring chances. Middle-of-green targets are sensible.

Very playable if you prioritise accuracy. Take enough club to stay short of trouble and focus on steady golf rather than hero shots.
