The North Course is Quinta do Lago’s most modern design, completely overhauled in 2014 by Paul McGinley and Beau Welling. The €9 million redesign transformed it into a serious tournament course with wide, flowing fairways, bold bunkering, and US-style green complexes. It’s a playable layout for all abilities, yet still demands accuracy and course management. Fairways roll between umbrella pines and elevation changes keep you thinking on every hole. The routing favours strategy over brute power, and the green surrounds are tightly cut and fast-running – testing your short game creativity. Water hazards feature on eight holes but never feel overwhelming. Standout holes include the par-4 12th with its split fairway and water right, and the short par-3 15th, perched above a lake. The overall feel is clean, elite, and contemporary – a masterfully built course that stands up to any in the Algarve.

Shape your tee shots and use the firm surrounds to your advantage. Don’t get greedy with water carries – the course rewards smart play more than aggression.
Forgiving off the tee but challenging around the greens. Focus on safe targets and take your medicine when out of position. Putts roll fast – respect the pace.
Very playable from forward tees. There’s width off the tee and good visual guidance. Avoid water and focus on short game fundamentals. An enjoyable and scenic round.
10 – firm, fast, and tour-calibre
Breezy in the afternoon – pine trees offer some shelter, but gusts swirl
Efficient – managed by experienced resort staff with good spacing
Low – open fairway and supportive resort feel help ease the start
Stylish and modern – shared with the South Course, with excellent terrace views
The 12th is a superb par-4 with risk-reward options and water lurking right. The 15th is a picturesque, short par-3 over a lake. The 18th, a strategic dogleg par-5, is a classic match-play finisher with a tight approach to a sloping green.
Warm and consistent – ideal golf climate. Spring and autumn offer the best conditions. Summer heat is manageable with buggies and morning tee times.
