Often described as the most scenic course in Wales, Pennard is a rugged, clifftop links-meets-downland layout perched above Three Cliffs Bay. Designed originally by James Braid, it is a wild and wonderful ride – full of humps, hollows, natural dunes, blind shots, and unpredictable bounces. The terrain is entirely unmanicured and beautiful in its natural state. You’ll find castle ruins on the 7th hole, sheep grazing freely, and panoramic sea views from nearly every part of the course. The front nine opens gently before rising into the higher ground, where the wind becomes a major player. The back nine includes some demanding carries and breathtaking par-3s. While not long on paper, it plays much tougher than the yardage – thanks to exposed lies, elevation, and a devilish short game test. You don’t come to Pennard for prestige – you come for joy. It’s a place that reminds you why golf was invented in the first place.

Embrace creativity. This is not a yardage book course – you’ll need feel, flight control, and smart misses. It’s a brilliant short-game test in the wind.

Don’t overthink it. Trust your instincts, keep the ball in play, and aim for safe zones. The course will surprise you, in the best way.

Pick forward tees and enjoy the adventure. It’s wild, fun, and honest – you’ll hit some amazing shots and some strange ones. That’s the magic here.

The 7th is iconic – a par-4 playing through castle ruins with the sea behind. The 16th, a short par-3 along the cliffs, is breathtaking. The 10th, a long par-4 with a blind tee shot and a rollercoaster fairway, captures the course’s essence.

Classic coastal climate – wind, mist, and sun can all happen in one round. Summer is stunning and dramatic. Autumn is spectacular for light and mood. Always bring layers.
