The Fidra Course at Archerfield Links is a beautifully balanced modern layout, offering a polished but natural-feeling golf experience. The front nine plays through towering pine forest, with wide fairways and sculpted bunkering reminiscent of classic inland designs. From the 10th onward, the course opens into linksland – firm, fast, and shaped by wind and gorse. The contrast is deliberate and elegant, echoing classic layouts like Pinehurst or Walton Heath. Fidra’s fairways are generous, but approach shots must be dialled in – many greens are protected by deep bunkers or runoff areas. The par-5 4th and the par-3 12th stand out for their design and setting. Although not as wild as some traditional Scottish links, Fidra delivers strategy, serenity, and scenery in spades. With five-star service, first-class practice facilities, and a boutique luxury vibe, it’s a favourite among those seeking exclusivity and calm. You’ll rarely feel rushed – and you’ll want for nothing. Archerfield is private golf made accessible.

Attackable if you drive well. Par-5s present eagle chances, but greens are tricky if you miss in the wrong place. Course rewards sharp iron play and confident putting.

The par-3 12th plays toward the beach through linksland, beautifully framed. The 4th is a tempting par-5 through pine trees, offering an eagle chance. The 18th is a strong closer with bunkers guarding a two-tier green in front of the house.

East Lothian is Scotland’s sunniest region. Expect dry conditions, firm turf, and gentle breezes in summer. Spring and autumn also excellent for play.
