Kingsbarns is a modern classic with old soul. Opened in 2000 but laid out across ancient golfing land, it flows naturally along 1.8 miles of rugged Fife coastline. Designed by Kyle Phillips, every hole embraces the sea — either skirting the shore or offering panoramic views. The course is known for its beauty and brilliance: wide fairways, dramatic elevation changes, fast, firm greens, and visually stunning holes. The par-3 15th is unforgettable, playing directly over the crashing surf. The par-5 12th is a sweeping dogleg that invites bold second shots over the bay. Fairways are generous, but approach shots demand precision due to run-offs and clever bunkering. Wind is ever-present, often changing direction as you loop back inland. Conditioning is world-class, and service matches any five-star experience. It’s a course that rewards creativity and bravery, but never punishes unfairly. A joy to play for all skill levels, and one of the most photogenic courses on earth.

Go for flags only when confident – the green surrounds are punishing. Play to zones, and use the wind wisely. It’s a shot-maker’s playground.
The fairways are friendly – focus on smart approaches and lag putting. Don’t chase birdies – enjoy the beauty and pick your moments.
One of the most enjoyable courses for high-handicappers. Big fairways, no forced carries, and exceptional caddies make it playable and memorable.
10 – smooth and quick, but fair in the wind
Frequent coastal breezes, often swirling. Plays differently morning vs afternoon.
Well managed with starter and marshals – premium experience
Warm, welcoming vibe – starter gives a helpful briefing. Modest gallery. Easy start but don’t let your guard down.
Modern, elegant, with full sea views and first-class service
The par-3 15th is one of Scotland’s most photographed holes – over the sea to a clifftop green. The 12th, with its heroic carry over the bay, tempts every bold second shot. The 18th is a strong closer with a dramatic, bunkered fairway and rising green beneath the clubhouse.
Generally drier than the west coast. Wind is frequent but varies in intensity. Spring and late summer offer spectacular light and firm conditions. Bring layers and sun cream – yes, even in Scotland.
