The Masters is one of the most important and beloved golf tournaments in the world. Most players would admit that winning the Green Jacket is the highest achievement in golf. The final round of the Masters each year is scheduled for the second Sunday in April and Executive Golf & Leisure are delighted to offer fully inclusive 5 Star corporate and leisure packages to attend this marvellous spectacle.
There is a certain mystique to the Masters Tournament and it all centres around the amazing Augusta National course, one of the most private and beautiful courses in the world. Augusta National is a members’ only club and visitors may only play the course if invited to do so by a member. Even the richest of the rich cannot buy a round on this coveted course and obtaining a membership is even more difficult.
The Masters History
Looking to provide a service to golf by hosting a tournament, Bobby Jones and Clifford Roberts decided to hold an annual event beginning in 1934. The first Tournament was held March 22, 1934, and beginning in 1940, the Masters was scheduled each year during the first full week in April. That first Tournament was won by Horton Smith.
The Tournament was not played in 1943, 1944 and 1945, during the war. To assist the war effort, cattle and turkeys were raised on the Augusta National grounds. After the war the tournament resumed its normal annual schedule and has since grown to be on of the most prestigious golfing events on the calendar.
