Playing the Course
The second course at the ‘Home of Golf’ was designed by the ‘Keeper of the Greens’ in 1895 and was imaginatively named to differentiate itself from its famous neighbour.
Boasting undulating fairways and challenging greens, the New Course is a classic test of links golf offering a first-class experience to golfers of all ability.
The courses of St Andrews Links are owned by the local authorities and operated by St Andrews Links Trust, a charitable organisation.
St Andrews is also home to the Royal and Ancient Golf Club one of the most prestigious golf clubs, and until 2004 one of the two rule making authorities of golf (in that year, the Royal and Ancient Club passed on its rule making authority to an offshoot organisation, The R&A).
St Andrews, New Course
At Par 71 and 6,625 yards, with 18 holes, the New Course at St Andrews is often referred to as the world-famous links’ best kept secret.
With no handicap restrictions, it’s an undulating course similar in character to the Old Course, with driving range facilities located in the nearby St Andrews Links Golf Academy.
