Playing the Course
Located on the north west coast of County Kerry on a beautiful stretch of sand dunes overlooking the Atlantic Ocean, you’ll find two wonderfully challenging and unique links golf courses at Ballybunion, the Old Course and the Cashen.
By the mid 1970s there was a growing trickle of well-read international visitors – that overnight turned into a flood in 1982 – when Tom Watson made his famous off-the-cuff eulogy after accepting the Claret Jug at Royal Troon: “Nobody can call himself a golfer until he has played at Ballybunion; you would think the game originated there!”
Ballybunion has welcomed many famous people including Jack Nicklaus and Bill Clinton and was the host to the 2000 Irish Open and 2004 Palmer Cup.
In 2020 the Old Course was rated No.9 in the Top 100 Golf Courses in the World by Golf Digest.
