Ardtalla House on Novar Estate
Novar Estate was once described as a “barren and treeless place”. Three hundred years later and under the stewardship of the same family, it is a thriving Highland estate extending to 20,000 acres and including farmland, forestry, hill, shooting and fishing.
Ardtalla House is in a unique position at the heart of the estate and adjacent to Novar’s five acre walled garden complete with tennis court and croquet lawn. Ardtalla is an ideal base for groups of eight to eighteen golfers wishing to play some of the finest courses in the Highlands of Scotland including Royal Dornoch, Castle Stuart, Tain, Fortrose and Nairn. Other notable courses in the area can be found at Brora, Golspie and Strathpeffer among others. On your return from Golf you can even book a massage to get your ready for your next round.
The waters of the River Alness and the malting barley grown on Novar are key ingredients in the fine local malts of the Highlands. A whisky tasting can be sampled at Ardtalla or at a local distillery. The Dalmore, Glenmorangie and Balblair are all near by.

Auchterarder House
Auchterarder House has a rich history dating back to 1832 when it was built by Scottish architect, William Burn, for Lt-Col. James Hunter. Designed for entertaining, it is a house that welcomes its guests with warmth and enormous comfort. Ideal for house parties of all ages with a host of activities available in the grounds as well as others to be found locally, there is something for everyone.
The house enjoys stunning views over the Grampian mountains to the west and the Cairngorms to the north as it sits in the very centre of Scotland – a very peaceful and private spot. Auchterader House has the benefit of being just 5 minutes’ drive from Gleneagles Hotel with its three Championship golf courses. Why not also enjoy the health spa and Andrew Fairlie’s highly respected 2-star Michelin restaurant along with the many other activities they have on offer such as, fishing, Shooting and Horse Riding. Not only is Auchterarder House located near Gleneagles, it is also about an hour’s drive, or 15 minute helicopter journey from the Home of Golf, St Andrews.
Auchterarder House is located close to many wonderful distilleries which guests often enjoy visiting. Those with a casual interest can usually sign up for a 45-60 minute tour, whereas the afficionados can take much longer 2-3 hour tours. All will end in a tasting and an opportunity to stock up on a few bottles of ‘Scottish water’.
A personal favourite of ours nearby is the Glenturret Distillery, set in the beautiful Perthshire countryside, Scotland’s oldest working distillery offers tours and tasting experiences along with a great shopping experience featuring the newly launched Glenturret range – an exquisite taste of luxury to treat someone special, or yourself. The Glenturret restaurant is due to re-open in Spring 2021 following a stunning makeover.
