Playing the Course
The South Course of Quinta do Lago is considered its crown jewel. Originally designed in 1974 by William Mitchell, who introduced American-standard greens, tees and bunkers to the Algarve, the course has a reputation and is a flagship in Europe.
The South Course has been host to the Portuguese Open eight times but does not deter the amateur golfer. Accurate tee shots are essential for reaching the vast greens and has a variety of doglegs and strategically located hazards to increase the courses’ difficulty.
South Course Quinta do Lago
Since its inception, Quinta do Lago has been at the forefront of international golf. Named ‘Europe’s Best Golf Venue’ at the 2015 and 2016 World Golf Awards, Quinta do Lago has also won an ‘Editor’s Choice Award for Best International Resorts’ in 2015 by Golf Digest. Home to three award winning golf courses – North, South and Laranjal – the resort boasts a wealth of cutting-edge practice facilities, including the world’s first Paul McGinley Golf Academy and the only TaylorMade Performance Centre in Europe.
