The Old Course, Royal Dornoch, Muirfield, Turnberry, Carnoustie, Kingsbarns; the list of world-class links courses in Scotland is mouth watering. Welcome then to Dumbarnie Links the latest, expertly designed, Scottish links golf course which is scheduled to open for play on 16 May 2020.

Introducing Dumbarnie Links

Located in Lower Largo in a gorgeous and secluded corner of the East Neuk of Fife  – just 20 minutes from St Andrews, the ‘Home of Golf’ – this beautifully designed stretch of links is situated on the historic Balcarres Estate. It’s a picturesque location with a clubhouse sitting 100 feet above sea level, offering panoramic views across the Forth estuary to Muirfield, North Berwick and Edinburgh, made all the more stunning for its mile and a half long beach and sea frontage.

It’s been carefully crafted by the celebrated golf course designer, and former Ryder Cup player, Clive Clark. As the designer of no less than 35 top class golf courses in Europe and the USA, Clark previously enjoyed a highly successful business partnership designing courses with Peter Alliss, his erstwhile BBC Golf TV colleague, before setting up on his own in Scottsdale, Arizona.

Dumbarnie Links is Clark’s first venture in Scotland and many are questioning what took him so long to create a truly special site which is visually stunning with unobstructed views over the Firth of Forth. The answer is quite simply an opportunity to do so. Lord Anthony Balniel – whose family has owned the historic 5000 acre Balcarres estate, since the 16th century – was initially a little sceptical:

“There was a general air of uncertainty when my family was first approached about building a golf course on our land. Fast forward several years and we couldn’t be more pleased. What Clive’s team has achieved is nothing short of outstanding. I’ve been struck by the beauty of what’s been created with the dune landscape which has been enhanced by wildlife, plants and birds. It has been a joy to see this project unfold.”

An Unforgettable Golfing Experience

It seems the immediate community are very impressed too, with many locals voicing their support for this ambitious and detailed project. With up to 6900 yards of play, and extensive practice facilities, Dumbarnie meets the desire for an unparalleled, memorable golf experience in both a playing and aesthetic sense. An intricate two level design built mainly on sand foundations with a mixture of tees playing down an escarpment towards the water. Indeed, fourteen of these holes have views straight onto the North Sea and lie up to 60 feet above the fairway.

Whilst it will provide a stringent test for even the best golfers, playing a round at Dumbarnie is actually designed to be inspiring and breathtaking, rather than difficult. And when the golf’s over, players can relax in the friendly clubhouse, or pick up one of many souvenirs from the well stocked golf shop. With a friendly golf service team on hand to attend to your every need, Dumbarnie Links is expected to capture the attention of some top names in a way that only golf in the immediate vicinity of St Andrews can.
