Ireland, like Scotland its near neighbour across the water, is obsessed with the game of golf. When it comes to combining “the craic” with great golf, there is no place the travelling golfer will be made more welcome than the Emerald Isle.
The island is festooned with around 300 wonderful courses, with marvellous sounding names like Portmarnock, Ballybunion, Lahinch and Royal Portrush. Much like their remarkable names, these challenging Irish links and parkland courses, with their scenic backdrops, are nothing short of spectacular and provide an array of wonderful opportunities to explore the golfing landscape from North to South, East to West.
Executive Golf and Leisure have a number of packages across the length and breadth of the island combining the old and historic with the newer resorts.
Dublin is the capital and the courses to the north of the historic city include Portmarnock, the newer Portmarnock Links and Royal Dublin. The K Club as host to the Ryder Cup offers a wonderful five star resort location.
Northern Ireland offers two world famous and must play challenges in Royal County Down (which is perhaps the most scenic course in the country) and Royal Portrush which has just been put back on The Open Championship rota. There are however a host of other great courses such as Portstewart that can be added to a trip north.
The South West of Ireland has historically bee Ireland's most famous golfing destiantion and as well as the traditional links such as Lahinch, Ballybunion and Tralee you can now find luxury castle resorts such as Adare Monor and Dromoland. New links such as Doonbeg (near Lahinch) and Old Head (on the Cork coast) make the area a haven for the golfer.
